A First Ride Update

Bike Magic ‘Project Kinesis’: A first ride update.

David Arthur from Bike Magic has built himself a light weight Maxlight XCPro3 and I think it’s safe to say that he is happy with the result!

“It’s shone on its debut ride. The fact it shines on typical British singletrack is no surprise considering it’s been designed by guys who actually ride bikes a lot, and this shows. It’s an engaging bike. At full throttle it flies along the trail, the light build allowing you to fully exploit the stiffness and great handling of the frame”.

KM220L First Ride

Tom from Green Park Bike Station in Bath recently built up a rather nice KM220L based MTB for friend Becci.

Here’s how the first ride went;

“We’ve had a great day out on some super singletrack around Bath for a first proper ride of Becci’s new women’s specific mtb. We hit the first hill, Brown’s Folly, which is super steep and the lightweight frame and XT groupset plus wheels saw Becci shoot up in record time! The agility of the frame (and rider!) made popping up over the rooty uphill section no problem.

At the top we let some air out of the tyres as its pretty moist and slippery still what with the excuse for summer we’re experiencing at the moment. The bike performed brilliantly on the gentle flowing downhill singletrack, the compact geometry and women specific sizing making short work of tucking round the tight twisty bends.

There’s more for Becci to get out of this bike, she’s looking forward to hitting Ashton Court in Bristol soon, and pushing the bike to see what it can do. Next time I’ll be sure to have a double shot espresso before we set off, there’s speed in those wheels!”

Scott Beaumont is Pump track Champion of Harthill 2011.

Scott Beaumont is Pump track Champion of Harthill 2011.

Its was a very wet start to the day at Harthill and it was touch and go if the race would take place.

Lucky the race was not until the evening and with the weather improving by the start of official practice the track was drying and the sun was out.

The track at Harthill was built by Lee of MTB Pursuits who runs his mountain bike park at Hales Supebole which is also a mountain board center (they have a pump track for mountain boards, not quite sure how that one works!)

The track has about a zillion different lines and combinations of going round it, even a wall ride at the bottom of the three big berms, it was left to the riders to decide which line they wanted to take and with the Pro’s they wanted the wall ride in.

With the actual route around the pump track decided it was time for official practice, with a crowd starting to build around the pump track the atmosphere was starting to build so between the end of practice and the start of the knockout heats the Lezyne Exploder competition was run.

Its two people head to head stood side by side trying to explode an inner tube in before the other person.

This time Tim from Schwalbe had giving us a big downhill inner tubes which get very big and loud when they go bang!

Photos and Video’s up later this week. http://pumptrackchallenge.com/

Project Kinesis

Kinesis XCPro3

There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of a first ride on a bike you’ve built yourself.

Every detail sweated over, choosing the right frame as a starting point then picking the best components for your style of riding, placing the orders and then, when you’re surrounded by piles of boxes, putting the bike together piece by piece.

If you’ve never built your own bike before, you really should, it’s an invaluable experience in gaining first-hand experience of how the components blend together as a whole, the relationship between the separate parts. And knowing that your own fair hands have built the bike, tightened every bolt, is one of the most satisfying experiences in mountain biking.

BB’s Ranch is an awesome setup just outside Lyon with a ton of dirt jumps and banks to go crazy on.

A day’s session there with the crew, joined by Yannick Granieri, turns into a pretty epic display of riding on the big setup.

Moving into Marseille the guys catch some down time round the skate park and wrap up a pretty sick day all in all.
